ADTs are essentially dump trucks with two attached sections – the cab and the trailer. The cab and trailer meet at an “articulation point”, which allows them to move somewhat independently of each other. This increased manoeuvrability makes the ADT better equipped to moving on rough and rocky terrain, around obstacles, and in tight spaces.
Rigid tipper trucks are built with the cab and trailer welded together, not allowing this extra movement. Instead, rigid tippers are usually more durable and can carry larger loads than ADTs, making them the ideal machine for on-road aggregate transport, especially to larger sites.
